On the 4th November 1946, Metro Plating was founded by Mr Charles Fredrick Etheridge (06.01.1904 – 10.06.1988), who was born in the East End of London and trained as an engineer after the First World War. He was exempt from National Service due to his involvement and supply of Military Components. Arthur John Etheridge (01.01.1939) joined the business in 1954 as a Director and still remains to this day as the Managing Director of Metro at 86 years of age. Arthur’s wife Joan was an integral part from 1958, primarily processing office documentation and payroll due to her background in the banking sector in Mayfair, London. Metro now remains as one of the UK’s Largest Manual Anodising Specialists after 80 Years. Simon Etheridge and Mark Etheridge, who are the only two grandsons of Mr Charles Etheridge, joined the business in October 1987 and January 2004, respectively. Simon joined straight from school at the age of 18, and Mark as a trained Chartered Accountant just before his 38th birthday, and both still remain as day-to-day Directors. The business has always been a family-oriented concern, with not only 3 generations of the Etheridge family involved at the same time in the late 1980s, but has always had numerous close links with local families and has employed two generations from many local residents, as well as other members of their extended families. Metro specialises in ascertaining specific customer finishes by chemically anodising manufactured articles. This is achieved with various methods of abrasive glass bead blasting, masking, chemical brightening, and specific sealing methods. We also carry out Chromic, Phosphoric and Titanium Anodising as well as conversion coatings. We currently hold ISO 9001:2015 accreditation with the desire to extend this to AS9100 Rev D. In the Autumn of 2022, we expanded our capacities with a further 2000 Sq/ft of mezzanine to incorporate a further expansion of Blasting Capabilities, a fully operational Reverse Osmosis process to aid production and improve the quality of Anodised product. Further operational investments are also taking place over the coming months.
